Answering Questions: Part III

This week, I continued to read through Caitlin's and Paul's old papers on Looking Glass and remixing. I found a few relevant papers that talke a little about concept libraries, though I'm fairly certain that those are not the same thing as what I am hoping to implement. Reading the papers and the studies they conducted gave me some thoughts as to how to design my own study.

Essentially the area that I hope to explore is the use of searching and bookmarking on remixing. The idea of having pre-fabricated remixing is that it streamlines the procedure of remix, allowing users to focus more on creating things that they want rather than the details of putting together some simple animations.

Thanks to Jordana, the new website looks awesome and has search capabilities now. My plan is to build some worlds to act as pre-fabricated remixes and some worlds to act as worlds. The "pre-fabricated remix" worlds would be very simple, containing just a single complete animation of a character (as if they were remixed from a world. The worlds that I create would be the ones that "originally contained" these remixes. I also plan on creating some very specific challenges that will hopefully inspire users in a way that lead users into searching for these "pre-fabricated remixes/worlds."

Once the worlds/remixes are bookmarked, the users will switch over to the IDE side to see how well they can make the connection between the worlds that they bookmarked on the community and the ones that they can now use in Looking Glass. This should be a fairly open-ended study to begin with, just to see how users explore the website/use bookmarks.

Hopefully without too much difficulty, I can begin to answer some of the questions I posed last week. One important one being the difference between searching/exploring worlds and remixes. What the user's objectives are when searching either/both?
